Villarreal want Karl Toko Ekambi

French papers are reporting Villarreal have offered €16m to sign Karl Toko Ekambi, who has been pretty much responsible for keeping Angers SCO in Ligue Un for another season.

Ekambi has 17 goals for Angers this season; he’s 25 and a Cameroonian international. Interestingly, he and Cedric Bakambu overlapped briefly at Sochaux in the summer of 2014, Ekambi arriving in July and Bakambu departing in August for Bursaspor.

Angers rejected Brighton and Hove Albion, who approached them last August about a move, but they (and Newcastle) are rumored to be interested again. Angers are going to want more like €20-25m, I would guess, given that he represents by far the most marketable asset they have. I’d be delighted if Villarreal and Angers worked out a deal pronto—he’s my first choice when it comes to strikers in our price range!
