Betis move into European spots; how many points will it take for sixth?

About this time every year I enjoy doing this....

The weekend results are behind us, and here’s where we stand for the Europa League places next year. (The Champions League places are already spoken for, just the final order is uncertain). Current fifth through eighth are:

Villarreal (47) home: Athletic Bilbao, Leganes, Celta, Valencia, Real Madrid

away: Sevilla, Depor, Barcelona

Sevilla (46) home: Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Alavés

away: Celta, Depor, Levante, Betis

(NB: Sevilla also play Bayern Munich home and away in the CL, and Barca in the Copa final)

Betis (46) home: Eibar, Las Palmas, Malaga, Sevilla

away: Girona, Atleti, Athletic Club, Leganés

Girona (44) home: Betis, Espanyol, Eibar, Valencia

away: Real Sociedad, Alavés, Getafe, Las Palmas

Celta and Eibar are on 40 points; Celta have matches left against all of the top seven except Atleti and Betis, so if they make it, they’ll deserve it; Eibar’s away matches (Betis, Espanyol, Valencia, Girona and Atleti) will be difficult.

With Sevilla and Barcelona playing in the Copa del Rey final, seventh place will make it into the Europa League.

Tiebreaks: Villarreal wins vs Betis, loses vs Girona.

Sevilla wins vs Girona.

So...what will it take? Girona look like the key...maybe 56 points? It would be a good idea for Villarreal to win a bunch of those home games....
