Villarreal B-Mallorca will be key this weekend

The big match in Vila-real this weekend is the visit of Mallorca, as the top two teams in Segunda B, Group 3 face off. The visitors have a comfortable eight point lead over Villarreal so would be happy with a draw, while for the mini-Submarine, a win is key if they are to have any chance of finishing first in the group (which provides an easier means of promotion).

Villarreal B have faltered a bit of late, just as the first team has—since the beginning of February we have one win, two draws and two losses, and have only scored in one of the five matches. Elche, Cornellá and Lleida Esportiu are all nipping at our heels. A “partidazo de ‘play-off’”, says EPM, and who can argue? Meanwhile, Villarreal C face a key match as well, playing away to Olímpic Xàtiva. Th.e C team is on 43 points, Olí are on 49, and the team in 4th (last playoff place) is on 50. The team is playing well—American youth international Mukwelle Akale has been particularly impressive of late—but it’s hard to go down to Xàtiva and come back with three points. Here’s hoping!
