Roger Martinez signed permanently

Roger Martinez, whom Villarreal signed on a loan from Jiangsu Suning, has joined the Yellows permanently. Apparently the ‘loan’ was really a loan with a compulsory purchase option, in this case for €15m.

It’s a lot to pay for a player who has hardly featured so far in Vila-real, though it must be remembered Jiangsu paid €10m for him in the summer of 2016 from Racing Club, and he is still only 23 (turns 24 in June).

Villarreal fans are somewhat aghast given his lack of playing time so far and the other options potentially out there, but in this case the decision to sign him permanently was made in January.
