Big news this weekend was of course the injury to Leo Messi, who came off after falling awkwardly in the first half of Barcelona’s 4-2 victory over Sevilla. Messi will be out probably through the next international break, with a broken bone in his arm. Look for him to target a return against Atletico Madrid Nov 24th.
Celta Vigo haven’t won in six games now, and coach Antonio Mohamed might not be around much longer. I’d say their home match against Eibar will do it for him if the Sky Blues don’t win, especially if they look as bad as they did against Alaves.
VIllarreal’s next league opponent led the league table briefly courtesy of a Tomas Pina goal, and they will be a tough nut to crack next week.
And all hail Levante, who defeated Real Madrid 2-1 to put Julian Lopetegui’s job under even more scrutiny. That’s four matches in La Liga for Los Blancos without a win; the last time that happened was.....the end of the season just before Cristiano Ronaldo arrived.
Who’s hot: Levante, Valladolid, Betis. And Sevilla, sort of.
Who’s not: Pretty much everybody else. Really.
Think about it. If Villarreal had converted their chances in the home matches they’ve lost, we could have 5-6 more points at least, and then we’d be up among the leaders. What a weird season it has been so far.
