Fun and weird match the one lived today at the Estadio de la Cerámica in Villarreal.
With the news of Toño being the starting goalkeeper in place of Gerónimo Rulli, Real Sociedad wanting to improve from their last results. Didn’t find it. Samu Castillejo did a through pass for Enes Ünal that was intercepted by Raúl Navas and send to a corner. Castillejo took the corner and sent it over the second post where Víctor Ruiz unopposed managed to get a good header to put the first goal in the scoreboard with only five minutes of play. Second goal didn’t wait too much when Toño didn’t clear the ball from a pass and sent it to Bacca who passed it to Fornals for the goal. Real was not feeling in the field, when in a counterattack, Ünal made a pass to Bacca who managed to run faster than Diego Llorente, ran past Toño and scored. 3-0 with 21 minutes of play.
Real Sociedad managed to score from a side freekick when Illarramendi putted the cross and Diego Llorente made contact for the 3-1. There were some more chances for both teams, but mainly Villarreal with the control of the ball. On a play, Fornals opened to Castillejo who ran with it, and when in the area, looked for space to sent a curve ball to the net. Even though the game was 4-1, Real Sociedad had their chances to get near on the scoreboard. And with the 4-1 we got to halftime.
Second half didn’t have too much history, Real managed to score the 4-2 with a shot from Willian José deflected by the defence in a play where Fornals didn’t manage to get the ball out to make a counterattack. From there, Real believed in the possibility of getting at least some points here and had their fair share of chances, but Villarreal too. In the end, the scoreboard remained still and Vila got their well-deserved 3 points. If I had to talk about the best Villarreal player today I’d say Samu Castillejo with honorable mentions for Enes Ünal and Fornals
On other news, beIN Sports reported Javi Fuego’s deal is done and would be official Monday
Trivia: It’s been 16 years since Villarreal scored four goals in a half
