Musacchio deal is official; B team news

€18m is not bad, we can reinvest it for sure

As widely expected, the sale of Mateo Musacchio to AC Milan was made official today, now the Italian season has concluded. €18m is a reasonable fee for a player in the last year of his contract, and it has to be said Musacchio, while he’s been a key part of our team for a long time, does not have the upside (or the physical tools) of an Eric Bailly, though he certainly has more experience than Gabriel. So €18m isn’t bad for a player who wanted to leave after eight years. Another pretty good deal, as some indicated today we paid at most €700,000 for his rights (though it was quite convoluted, so how anyone could really know I am not sure).

B team news: Javi Calleja, as expected, has been named the new coach. And, as always, there are players who are moving on. Carlitos Lopez, Anton Shvets, Agustin Doffo, Felipe Alfonso, José Peris, José Lazo are all released (Alfonso, Peris and Carlitos all played regularly) and no decision has been made yet about Carlos Martinez, Franco Acosta, Pablo Larrea, and Marcos Mauro.

Finally, Villarreal announced that next year it will be picking up the cost of a grant the Vila-real city council has been providing to seniors, I think related to them attending matches—it’s about €50,000 a year. Not sure exactly how it works but it is a nice gesture to save the city that money.
