A brief roundup of morning (California morning) news

Morning groguets! I hope you are adjusting to our new look without undue difficulty. Here are a few tidbits for you today:

(1) MARCA says you can forget all those MLS/Italy/France rumors about Jonathan dos Santos—he is remaining with Villarreal next season.

Jona’s contract runs until 2019, so normally this would be a summer when you might think Villarreal would receive some offers. However, Jona is quite happy here, especially so since he is in a relationship with Marta Carriedo. Marta, if you did not know, is a Spanish lifestyle blogger who has her own YouTube and Instagram presence and “has gained popularity for her makeup, beauty and fashion turtorials, as well as personal lifestyle and travel entries.” MARCA says this relationship was “decisive” in him wanting to tell everyone he’s not interested in a move this summer—so, cool.

Hey Jona, ask Marta would like to help us promote Villarreal USA next time she’s in California! (Jonathan is currently with the Mexico national team as they train for their next matches).

(2) A rumor in the Belgian press that Akram Afif is going on loan again, back to Eupen in Belgium.

(3) And finally, even though he was suspended for the final, Eric Bailly’s transfer gave Villarreal another €1m yesterday.

Bailly had a fine season with Manchester United; at least one fan blog suggested he might have been their player of the year. Congrats to him.
