Paco López likely to leave Villarreal B; Marcelino to Valencia?

He’s coached the B team the last couple of years.

Villarreal v Zaragoza

It’s being reported today that Paco López, who has coached our B team the past couple of years, is likely leaving after our failure to reach the promotion playoffs this season.

López may head over to Hércules and take charge of their squad, who finished out of the playoffs as well. If he does leave, it’s likely ex-Villarreal player and current Juvenil A team coach Javi Calleja will replace him. Calleja has done a great job with his young side, as they have won three league titles and the Champions Cup under his tutelage. It’s a jump up, but he’s ready for the challenge.

Calleja played for Villarreal from 1999 to 2006.

Another rumor that seems to be picking up more and more traction is that ex-Villarreal coach Marcelino Garcia Toral will take over the reins at Valencia. Apparently Quique Setien, who was thought to be one of the frontrunners, is no longer so. Negotiations with Marcelino are ongoing, apparently.

Things will probably be OK as long as Marce gets what he wants in terms of control over....most everything related to the squad, their nutrition and fitness especially; he will certainly improve their defense, but how will he fare with Valencia’s difficult fanbase and their budget constraints? It should be interesting.
