Last summer the “show us the money” saga involving AC Milan, Villarreal and Mateo Musacchio played havoc with our plans for the CL qualification matches, not to mention playing a role of some kind (exactly how much, we’ll never know) in Marcelino Garcia Toral’s departure.
The news from Milan is that the takeover of the club will take place, but with minority Chinese investors, who couldn’t get their money out of China, replaced by a European-based investment fund. But the deal is still not cut-and-dried. Milan is borrowing money so the guy who wants to buy them can buy them? What?
This deal is going to close—maybe—on April 14.
Well, if it doesn’t, there is another option, possibly. Various English papers are reporting Everton are trying to position themselves to acquire Musacchio in the summer. They already have his international teammate, Funes Mori, in the squad and need more defenders, so it makes sense from their point of view.
From Villarreal’s, it certainly does if once the season has ended, the Milan sale is still up in the air. Musacchio probably would prefer to play in Italy over England, but money talks, and if Everton have it and Milan does not, well.....
