Villarreal defeat Espanyol, 2-0

Villarreal kept up their European push with a deserved 2-0 win over Espanyol. The key match sequence took place just before halftime. Roberto Soriano should have scored but didn't, the visitors counterattacked but Andres Fernandez pulled off a key save, Villarreal came down the other end and this time Soriano did not miss.

The outcome was put beyond doubt with 10 minutes left when Cedric Bakambu, who is looking like last year’s model at last, picked up a rebound and fired past Diego Lopez at his right post.

This win puts villarreal within three points of Real Sociedad, currently in fourth, and one point behind Atleti, who play tomorrow. Endavant!!!
