Real Sociedad: Rulli; Mikel, Illaramendi, Iñigo Martinez, Xabi Prieto, Carlos Vela, Willan José, Zurutuza, Oyerzabal, Yuri B., Zaldua
(those are in order of uniform numbers, not positions)
Villarreal: Asenjo; Mario, Alvaro, Musacchio, José Ángel; Jona dos Santos, Trigueros, Rodri, Samu Castillejo; Pato and Sansone.
Prediction: The key for Villarreal is to keep this close enough so we can shade the tie by winning the home leg. Scoring an away goal will be important, especially since La Real have been in good scoring form of late.
As coach Escribá commented, it could be a key mistake or an act of individual brilliance that decides what looks like a finely poised tie.
This is the third time in four years we have been drawn against La Real in the round of 16; we lost in 2013/14, we won in 2014/15. I’m going to say 2-1 to the home side in this one, but that away goal will give us confidence we can progress with a victory at home.
