LA Galaxy is after Jonathan dos Santos

The idea being to reunite him with his brother in LA.

Various news outlets are reporting that the LA Galaxy are keen to double their dos Santos inventory. Having signed Gio from Villarreal a couple of years ago, now they are after brother Jonathan.

This story reports the Galaxy have made a formal bid. However, the financial details it gives are questionable—other sources report Jona’s Villarreal salary is closer to €2 million/year, so the ‘close to $1 million’ claim seems unjustified. That seems a non-starter for the MLS club.

Secondly, Villarreal probably did refer to Jona’s buyout clause, which is probably in the €20-25m range. Sure, I imagine Jonathan would like to play with his brother again sometime, but right now he is having a breakout year with Villarreal. It’s hard to imagine, at age 26, he’d want to leave La Liga and move to MLS, especially since he’s far more likely to be selected for Mexico’s national squad if he remains in Spain.

Still, watch this space.
