News from Vila-real today is that Jaume Costa and Mario Gaspar have agreed to new contracts. Financial terms were not announced, but both players signed four-year extensions. That means Jaume Costa is now signed through 2021, while Mario is signed through 2023.
Jaume joined Villarreal B from Valencia B in 2010, and made his first-team debut in March 2012; he’s been a regular in the squad pretty much since the 2012-13 season in the Segunda.
Mario Gaspar came up in the Villarreal youth system. Although he had a first-team debut in 2009, he essentially became a regular player in early 2011, when right-back Ángel Lopez went down with an injury, and has not relinquished the job since.
In other Villarreal news, Cedric Bakambu found the net twice as DR Congo brushed aside Senegal 5-0 in a friendly.
Also, Roberto Soldado has returned to training. He tweeted pics of him with the group, stretching and so forth. Great news!!
And, today’s unfounded rumor, just so we can feel part of the transfer market, I guess, is that Simone Zaza would prefer to come to Villarreal rather than Valencia. Doubtful, but not out of the question.
Back shortly with a preview of the match today. Endavant Villarreal!!
