Villarreal B defender Edgar Ié made his second start for A Selecção Olímpica. Portugal were trailing 1-0 within seconds of the encounter but they managed to turn the tables and seal their ticket to the quarter-finals.
Now that they have qualified to the last eight of the Olympics, Portugal will be hoping to keep building momentum and strengthen their position as candidates to win a medal.
Portugal will be facing the runners up of Group C, which is still open for grabs between México, South Korea, or Germany.
Meanwhile, Argentina also won their match against Algeria by the same margin; 2-1. Cristian Espinoza did not start for The Albiceleste and made a late substitution in the 86th minute.
Argentina are all but qualified, and they must win against Honduras is they are to make it to the quarter-finals of the Olympics.
