The Yellow Submarine faces FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão in their 6th friendly of preseason. So far, Villarreal has played 5 friendlies (CE l’Hospitalet, Gimnàstic de Tarragona, Real Sociedad, Sporting Lisbon, SC Braga), with 3 victories and 2 draws. The Yellows defeated l’Hospitalet, Nàstic, and Sporting Lisbon on PK kicks. They tied against La Real and Braga.
Porto will be a good opponent for the Submarine considering they’re in a similar situation as Villarreal, as Os Dragões will also be playing the Champions League playoff round against Roma. Tough draw for Porto. On the other hand, as everyone knows by now, Villarreal will be facing Monaco.
The Monegasque outfit counts will a lot of Portuguese in their squad, including two former Porto players such as João Moutinho and Ricardo Carvalho. Their manager Venezuelan born Leonardo Jardim is also Portuguese. Evidently, Porto and Monaco share a lot similarities. Therefore, it will be a good test for Marcelino García Toral and his men prior the decisive playoff tie in two weeks.
Marcelino will have to do without the absence of striker Cedric Bakambu as he will out up to 4 weeks because of injury. Now, the good news depending on one’s perspective is the return of Mateo Musacchio to the first team after his failed transfer for AC Milan.
