Giuseppe Rossi being loaned to Celta

One presumes Villarreal could have had him, had they wanted. Qué lastima.

News this morning is Giuseppe Rossi is returning to Spain, but not to Villarreal--he's joining Celta on a one-year loan from Fiorentina.  He's still only 29, scored six goals in seventeen appearances for Levante on loan last spring; this will be the last year of his contract with Fiore so presumably he'll be available as a free agent (or Celta will sign him permanently) after this season.

One of my favorite players, and for a brief period the Rossi-Nilmar attacking partnership threatened to make Villarreal the team that could challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona.   Then came his injuries, then after rehab a glorious part-season with Fiorentina, then anotehr injury and since his rehab from that there hasn't really been a place for him in Florence.

We wish him well, but will hate to see him in sky blue rather than yellow.
