Villarreal’s new kits, made by Joma, were released today, and they look pretty nice. The home jersey (the one we’ll wear all the time, pretty much) is of course yellow, with the same sponsor and font as last year, but there’s a little bit of blue piping on the sleeves and along the V-neck that adds a nice touch. I’m also a fan of the Joma “J” on the shoulders.
The second kit, which we’ll wear a couple of times this season I expect (certainly in Las Palmas) is black. I think the last time we had a black away kit was when—2011? Anyway, it has some nice touches too—yellow piping along the sleeves and neck of fthe shirt, and there is some subtle vertical striping as well. (this image from joma shows it before the sponsor’s name was added).
The third kit (I have no idea why) has horizontal dark green and light green stripes, which doesn’t impress me at all.
The goalkeeper’s jersey is light blue (I expect there will be a second one, but it wasn’t unveiled today). Nothing really interesting about it.
Overall, without actually seeing the material, I’d give the first and second kit A-’s, the third kit a D, and the keeper’s kit a B-.
What do you think? Will you order one, or more, of them? I’ll be very interested to see what the ancillary polo shirts, coats, etc. look like.
And may I make a suggestion for next year, Sr. Roig and Villarreal front office? Our fan base has more women than the norm in Spain—how about presenting a women’s version of the first shirt and have one of our Villarreal ladies’ side appear in it? It would be a good promotion for them.
