Another departure for Villarreal has been confirmed today. Sergio Marcos leaves Villarreal to join Real Valladolid until 2019.

Sergio Marcos arrived at Villarreal B in 2012 from Atlético Madrid B. Despite a slow start at the Mini Estadi, Sergio worked his way up and became one of the key players for Villarreal B with his commanding presence in midfield.

After an injury to Bruno, Marcelino turned to Sergio Marcos to replace the captain, and the canterano made his debut against Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas  alongside Tomás Pina, and left a good impression among the specialized press and fans alike. He started in back to back matches against Eibar at El Madrigal, where he shined thanks to his ball winning skills, distribution of the ball, and his stamina and work rate to roam all over the pitch.

Sergio Marcos big test was against Ancelotti's Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu starting alongside Tomás Pina once again. The canterano fared well on his own against one of the most powerful squads that included the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Isco, Benzema. Once again, Sergio Marcos shined in one of the biggest scenarios in the history of the game.

Sergio Marcos would go on to stat in the 4-1 trashing against Celta de Vigo, but was surprisingly left on the bench for the decisive Europa League game against Sevilla that Villarreal ended up losing 1-3 at El Madrigal. His last game was against Athletic Bilbao in the last match of the season coming as a sub.

Despite being tipped as Bruno's successor by the press and fans alike, Sergio Marcos then sent on a season loan to CD Lugo, joining former Villarreal B teammate Israel Puerto. Things didn't worked out for Sergio Marcos and Lugo as they ended up in 14th place and missed the promotion playoffs by 10 points.

We wish Sergio Marcos all the best at Valladolid. We all felt that he would have been the heir for Bruno but unfortunately things didn't work out.
