Villarreal defeat L'Hospitalet in first friendly of the season with a late goal by Alfonso Pedraza

María José Segovia

The Yellow Submarine began their preseason with a 1-0 victory against Catalan side L'Hospitalet de Llobregat at the Mini Estadi. Villarreal dominated the encounter for the majority of time, and the game was decided with a lonely strike by Alfonso Pedraza.

Marcelino decided to start newly signed Alfred N'Diaye in defense alongside Bonera, with Mario Gaspar and Adrián Marín as fullbacks. In midfield he paired Pablo Larrea from the B team and Jona dos Santos. Castillejo and Leo Suárez were deployed out wide with Soldado and Mario Gónzalez as the two strikers upfront.

Adrián Marín had to be subbed in the 23rd minute due to injury, and was replaced by Slovenian left-back Bojan Jokic.

As the match ended goalless and half-time, Marcelino decided to bring a different starting XI for the second half. Pantić was brought to start alongside Ruiz in defense. Cantalapiedra and Morlanes made their respective unofficial debuts with the first team, and Akram Afif and Bakambu featured upfront.
