And the Segunda División rolls on....

Four matches to go--nearly another month!--in the regular season, then the playoffs.

Four matches to go in the Segunda, and while things are still tight, there is starting to be some separation between the clubs.  There are now 10 teams that are still in with a decent chance at making the playoffs--I've figured making up 7 points in 4 matches is probably too much for the likes of Numancia, Mirandes, Tenerife, and Lugo.

Leganes and Alaves have opened up a four-point gap over Nastic in third place, and could make it larger: Leganes are at home to Huesca (16th), Alaves to Ponferradina (18th), while Nastic play away at 4th-placed Zaragoza tomorrow.

A big match today is Cordoba v Elche-- Cordoba are on 55 points, Elche 56, both needing a win to get closer to Oveido (59) and Osasuna (58).  Elche's problem is they need to draw less and win more (their 17 draws lead the division) while Cordoba need to draw more and lose less (their eight draws are third lowest, while 15 losses is at least 4 more than any club ahead of them).

Ex-Villarreal C star Florin Andone starts for Cordoba, Villarreal loanee Javier Espinosa for Elche.

At the bottom, Athletic Club's "Bilbao Athletic" is down, Albacete looks very likely (Juan Carlos in goal for them this season, btw), while Llagostera and Almeria are fighting to stay up but Ponferradina, Mallorca and Huesca seem to be doing just enough to survive ahead of them.  We'll see if that assessment changes after this weekend!
