Some Villarreal players are called up to national teams, but some are disappointed

Mario Gaspar didn't make it into the Spanish squad for the Eurocopa, Bruno Soriano did. And two other Villarreal players are in the reserves that will train with the main squad and could be called up in case of injury.

Villarreal fans were delighted to see Bruno Soriano called up to the Spain NT for the first time in a while, but disappointed that Mario Gaspar was left out.  Well, maybe del Bosque has a self-imposed quota on Submarine players...

Alphonse Areola was called up by France, Cedric Bakambu by DR Congo, and Eric Bailly by Ivory Coast.

Neither of the dos Santos brothers were called up by Mexico for the upcoming Copa America.  In Jonathan's case, he was told his injuries this summer were a main reason for his omission, but Gio's case is a bit more complicated.  He claims he told Mexico not to select him.  Never lacking drama and controversy, that Gio.

Also disappointment for Villarreal legend Santi Cazorla, who del Bosque left off the Spain squad for fitness reasons (he just returned to action after months off).

Denis Suarez and Sergio Asenjo are among the Spain players called up to train with the 'first team', and they could get an opportunity to go to France if players ahead of them are injured or disappoint.

Tough news for Mario, who really should have been selected, but at least we can celebrate Bruno getting another chance.
