Fran Escriba has been sacked by Getafe after their loss to Villarreal. The only good news Getafe has had lately is that some of the teams around them haven't been able to win either; still, with the worst goal difference in the league, and no wins since mid-January, the only real shock is it did not happen sooner.
The new guy, whoever he is, gets to start with a home match against Real Madrid. Oh joy. Sorry to see Escriba go; he did a great job getting Elche to the Primera, and they were an exciting team to watch last season at times.
Some insightful stuff as usual from Dave Blackmore--he was clearly watching the same game I was. Plaudits for Denis Suarez, though bittersweet since we can't keep Barcelona from signing him back in the offseason, and as Dave said, as soon as Bakambu was on the pitch you saw the speed and power we had been missing.
As for Rukavina, yes, Sarabia ran him ragged in the first half, but in the second the Getafe player was much less in evidence. I agree with Dave--Sarabia was one of the few players who looked up for this match. Henok Goitom I can forgive for his lack of impact--after all, he was only recently signed and had been out of football since December--but guys like Buendia, Medran, and Pedro Leon all seemed largely uninterested as the match wore on.
Supposedly, "Jokin" Caparrós, who has been out of football since being sacked by Granada in January 2015, is the choice to replace Escriba. Those of you with long memories may remember Jokin coached Villarreal in the last seven matches of our 1998-99 promotion campaign.
No Lotina jokes, please.
