The draw for the round of 16 (and for that matter the next ones as well) remind me of high school debate tournament knockout draws, with representatives of each team sitting and writing down their opponents' names, trying to look calm/happy/confident....
And so it was this morning. The draw has thrown up some attractive ties, though as often happens a couple of the weaker sides are facing each other, and there are two matches involving clubs form the same country. The draw is:
Shaktar Donetsk v Andelecht
Basel v Sevilla
VILLARREAL v Bayer Leverkusen
Athletic Club v Valencia
Liverpool v Manchester United
Sparta Prague v Lazio
Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham
Fenerbahce v Braga
Chicharito (15 goals in 18 matches in the Bundesliga) has led Leverkusen, who are doing OK--they're fourth in the Bundesliga, with a 10-5-7 record. Not a team I hoped for, but better than many alternatives at this point. A good stadium, easy to travel to.
What do you think? First leg on March 10 at El Madrigal, second on March 17 in Germany.
