As you surely know, the European transfer window opens January 1st. We’ve had some big moves in past Januaries, the big one being 2013 when we sold a still-injured Giuseppe Rossi and used that cash to buy players who led us to promotion—Jeremy Perbet, Jony Pereira, and Aquino. In 2015, we sold Gabriel to Arsenal, and moved Cani on loan—he never returned. Will 2017 bring any major moves?
Current players: who could leave?
Mateo Musacchio?—unlikely in January. AC Milan’s sale still has not closed. Ultimately, he probably will move on (he’s been at Villarreal since 2009).
Alfred N’Diaye? More likely. He’s hardly played in the league (105 minutes), the coach who wanted him is gone, and Escribá has given up on the center-back experiment. On the other hand, we spent €8m for him from Betis. Unless there is some club secretly longing to land him for close to that, my feeling is we keep him around for now.
Bojan Jokic? I know, you’d forgotten him.
And then there are the needs....a center-back maybe? What do you think?
