Villarreal have extended Manu Trigueros's contract until 2022. Details were not disclosed but I have seen it reported that a €40m buyout clause is included. That's probably enough for now unless he starts getting called up for Spain and makes waves for the national team, which could happen before too long...
Trigueros played in Barcelona's youth system until age 16, then went to Real Murcia where he played with their second team for two years. He joined Villarreal in the summer of 2010 after Real Murcia were relegated to the Segunda B, and was assigned to our C team, making his B team debut in June 2011.
Manu joined the Villarreal first team in 2012 and netted three goals in our promotion season--including the last-ditch equalizer against his old club down in Murcia. Has he scored a head goal since? I doubt it. Remember this? The 3000+ Villarreal fans in attendance went wild!
Manu made his Primera debut in August 2013. He's now scored 13 goals and netted 15 assists for the first team, and has seen his minutes increase dramatically this year as Escribá uses him as a regular starter.
Trigueros noted that he was happy to see Marcos Senna at his press conference, because he was reminded of Senna's shooting prowess from outside the box, and was reminded of that (as were many observers) when scoring his goal last weekend against Betis. And say, Jaume Costa was involved in the buildup too.
Congratulations, Manu!!!
