Villarreal B in action Wednesday against Espanyol B

New, comments

Villarreal B have gone five matches without defeat, and they look to make it six at the Mini Estadi on Wednesday.

Villarreal B are still in the bottom half of the Segunda B Group 3 table, but at least they have started to stop the rot, though goals are still proving hard to come by.  On Wednesday the B-boys host Espanyol B, who have two draws and three losses in their last five matches, compared to two wins and three draws for Villarreal B.

Espanyol B finished in the middle third of the table last year, and so far have had problems keeping goals out, but young attacker Marc Gual has notched five goals already.  Coach David Gallego presides over a young group that has changed little in composition form last year, though they have added young Paraguayan striker Cristopher Chávez (two goals so far).

Villarreal B is still missing Leo Suarez; the two Carlitos (Lopez and Martinez) have tallied three times apiece.  Pablo Larrea and Ramon Guerra are running things in midfield, and Aitor Cantalapiedra has done a good job too on the wing.  Young U-17 Spanish international Manu Morlanes hasn't seen much action yet, but is promising.

However, we are clearly missing Rodri and Pedraza, who have moved up/loaned, and Fran Sol, now whacking in the goals for Willem II in the Netherlands.

Defense has been a bit of a struggle; we've got more age back there in Marcos Lopez and José Peris, while Pau Torres and Portuguese youth international Edgar Ié are the top young talents.  We have a new Ander in goal, too, Ander Cantero.

Statistics: Villarreal B 14 points, 13 goals for, 12 against  (home record 2-2-1, 7 goals for, 5 against)

Espanyol B 11 points  12 goals for, 16 against (away record 1-2-2, 4 goals for, 6 against)

Last year: Villarreal B 2-2 Espanyol B (our goals by Pedraza and Suarez)

Espanyol B 1-1-Villarreal B  (Fran Sol with our goal)
