Villarreal’s “under-23” squad (basically, Villarreal B with a few additions from Villarreal C) fell to Middlesborough’s U-23 side today 1-0.
As seems to be typical for the B team these days, they had the best chances of the match, but a deflected free kick five minutes from time gave the home side the goal they wanted.
After winning this competition last year, Villarreal are set for an early exit—given our struggles in the Segunda B so far this season and the need to stay up there, much less a promotion push, that may not be the worst thing in the world.
The B team will be in action at Lleida Sportiu on Sunday, and a win against their fellow strugglers would be welcome. Endavant!
