Rumor is out that Giuseppe Rossi is bound for a Villarreal return. I know, it's an Italian source, and needs to be taken with even more salt than you should put in your pasta water, but still:

He's also rumored to be heading for Betis (that was the first rumor), while Liverpool and Swansea in the EPL are also said to be interested. Note the Fiorentina president is quoted as saying any move would be a loan move. Our sister blog, Viola Nation, has a good article with the pros and cons of him moving and his performance to date. They seem to think he might stay in Italy with a loan move to Sampdoria.
How likely is it Rossi will return to Villarreal? Well, he does have a good relationship with the Roig family, certainly, and you'd have to say we certainly know his strengths. On the downside, would we be able to give him the regular playing time he needs? I tend to doubt it, and the whole thing has rather too much of déja vu for me to believe it will actually happen--especially since he knows our treatment room and exercise equipment all too well.
Rossi is under contract at Fiorentina until summer 2017, incidentally. He had a tremendous year and a half with the Viola, but it's been two years and a day since he was tackled from behind in a reckless challenge and was reinjured.
Word from the Viola blog is "his body seems to be fully functional, but his mind is hesitant and moving slow. He probably needs regular minutes to really make it all the way back". But could those minutes come with Villarreal? And would he fit into our current side and counterattacking style of play? What do you think?
