Villarreal U-21 club will compete in England again

Another chance for Submarine fans to see some of our young players.

Villarreal will be taking part again in the Premier League international Cup, a tournament for under-21 teams.  Last year we took part in the first one and if memory serves had a win,a loss and a draw, narrowly failing to get out of the group stage.

As was true last year, the competition involves eight English teams (ideally, the top eight in the U-21 Premier League, though two of the eight decided not to compete and were replaced by the next two clubs) and eight invited sides from the rest of Europe.   Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao are the only Spanish clubs represented.

Unlike last year, which got off to a slow start due to UEFA's failure to approve the thing (forcing all games to be played in England), this time matches begin in September--though again, all games are played in England.

Villarreal are in a group with Norwich City, PSV Eindhoven and Leicester City.

The dates for our group matches are:

October 7 vs Norwich City,  Norwich (don't know venue yet)

October 27 vs PSV Eindhoven,  High Wycombe.  I would assume this would be at Adams Park, home of Wycombe Wanderers.

December 1 vs Leicester City, Leicester  (King Power Stadium)

Teams are allowed to field three outfield players and a goalkeeper over 21; as I recall, last year we took a team of mostly C-teamers with some B teamers and Juvenil A players as well.

If you're in England, this is a great chance to see some young Submarine talent, and I know the players would be delighted to see some yellow-clad support.  And if you see us play Norwich, you can see our change strip!
