Interestingly, the Mirror (UK), not usually a terribly reliable source when it comes to these sorts of things, reported nearly a month ago that Arsenal, who wanted to buy him, were likely to lose out, quoting a Napoli source:
"However, Napoli’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli says a move to the United Arab Emirates or Spain is more likely. We deal with many offers for Eduardo Vargas," Giuntoli told Chile media outlet El Mercurio. The UAE offer is very good for the club, but we’re also handling an offer from Spain. I cannot say the club, but they want to buy the player."" Hmm..... Vargas is usually deployed on the right wing, as opposed to Cheryshev on the left. But could he be our plan B since Benitez seems to have scuppered Chery's return? Samu Castillejo prefers to play on the left, so Vargas on the right would be a decent option, and there's still Samu Garcia who can play as a second striker or right wing. We shall see. Meanwhile, the Bakambu deal has (still) not been officially announced, but the player has retweeted comments from Bursaspor fans thanking him and wishing him good luck (his first appearance on twitter since the Turkish Supercup on the 7th) So surely it can't be long now, can it?
