Derby County 1-1 Villarreal in a tepid encounter

Villarreal drew 1-1 with Derby today, a fair result especially given how we approached it. Expect a more competitive squad at Goodison.

Villarreal drew 1-1 with Championship side (and promotion hopefuls) Derby County in front of over 17,000 at their ground.

Baptistao scored for us in the first half, Weimann for them in the second on a counter just after Manu Trigueros had hit a post.  Alfonse Areola stopped a truly dreadful Darren Bent penalty to spare us the blushes.

Takeaways:

(1) Nine subs at HT pretty much guaranteed we'd be on the back foot in the second half: Derby kept their squad that had played the first 45', we didn't.  No surprise, while we were still finding our legs, Derby dominated.

(2) The good: Iñiguez, Castillejo, Bapitstao, Rukavina, Mario, Areola

(3) The not-so-good: Bailly (a number of unforced errors), Jony Pereira....

It was a friendly, we still have nearly a month before we start competition, everyone played except Bruno (precautionary).  And something like 15-20 Villarreal fans got to see their team play.  (Derby expected 250, I have no idea why!!)
