Villarreal's Jona dos Santos is 90 minutes away to win his first trophy with the Mexican national team as El Tri has reached the 2015 Gold Cup final after defeating Panama 2-1 in extra tima in a match that turned out quite controversial, with dubious calls by ref Mark Geiger. Jona dos Santos played the entire match. He has earned praise by pundits due to his elegant passing and control in midfield.

The game got off to a awful start as Panama's Luis Tejada was sent off with a straight red card after a harsh call by Mark Geiger. Therefore, Panama had to play with 10 men since the 25th minute. Despite having being reduced to 10 men, Panama was able to open the score in the 57th minute after Roman Torres scored with a header after a cross from Eric Davis. Unfortunately for Torres, he was involved in the controversial call that culminated in México's equalizer.

It was in the 88th minute, just two minutes after the end, went the ref made the most controversial call of the game after Torres slipped, fell on the ball, and Mark Geiger called a hand-ball. Guardado converted the PK to take the match extra-time.

México got awarded another PK in the 105th minute, and Guardado was able to convert again from the spot.

Harsh result for Panama, who were the better team in the entire match. Disastrous performance by ref Mark Geiger. México reaches the Gold Cup final after 4 years, where they will be facing Jamaica who defeated the USA 2-1.
