Gio dos Santos scores for México as El Tri ties Costa Rica 2-2

Gio dos Santos grabbed a goal for México in their friendly match against Costa Rica that ended in a 2-2 tie. Jona dos Santos came in the second half.

As the 2015 Gold Cup gets ready to commence, two of the aspiring teams to lift the trophy, México and Costa Rica, met in a friendly match that ended 2-2.

Villarreal's Gio dos Santos earned his 86th cap with the Mexican national team as a starter. Joel Campbell also started from the get go with the Ticos. Jona dos Santos came in during the second half in the 78th minute.

Things started in awful fashion for El Tri as Costa Rica took the lead very early in to the game in the 4th minute. Joel Campbell sent a through ball for teammate David Ramirez who struck a left strike that went underneath Memo Ochoa. Costa Rica doubled their lead in the 36th after an own goal by Miguel Layun after a cross by David Ramirez.

México managed to turn things around in the second half. It was in the 53th when Gio dos Santos made an internal run into the box and made a cross shot beating Esteban Alvarado to make it 1-2 for México. Two minutes later Carlos Esquivel made a cross for Chicharito who headed the ball away from Alvarado and tied it for México. Jona would come in latter into the game in the 78th minute.

México will be facing Honduras on July 1st before their kick off for the Gold Cup against Cuba on July 9th.
