Following Barcelona's surprise capture of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla, the Andalusian club are looking for a new right back. And according to Inside Spanish Football, the player they want is Villarreal's Mario Gaspar. Not sure what his release clause is, but since he is signed through 2019 I can't imagine he would be cheap.
Speaking of Vidal, Sr. Roig Negueroles gave an interview to Radio Vila-real today where that topic came up. His response? Villarreal had some contacts with him, but nothing had been agreed and no one expected Barca to come in with €18m and swoop for him. "Those sorts of things happen in football".
Other comments:
Odegaard and Asensio on loan-- a fairly careful no comment ('there are things that come out that could be true, but right now I don't know where they are going')
Moi on loan somewhere-- "Moi is very young and it can be interesting to consider a loan, but so far there is nothing concrete"
A goalkeeper--We're close to signing someone, "won't be long term"
Victor Ruiz-- He confirmed contacts with Valencia. "We will see if in the coming days they bear fruit"
Gio and Jona dos Santos-- "The dos Santos brothers don't have to go in a "pack", each has his own career even though right now they play together"
As far as the sale of Vietto-- "I want to make it clear that we don't want to sell Vietto. If he leaves, it will be because his clause has been paid", and also "We didn't want to sell, but that's the market. It's not a pity, it would be a pity if no one wanted any of your players".
Word is that the Vietto deal is almost done with Atleti, and should be closed over the next two weeks: Villarreal will get €20m plus potentially another €5m in variables, and also will take Leo Baptistao on loan, perhaps with a purchase option. Also being reported on twitter Racing Club would get €2.7m, perhaps paid in three installments, as a result of the sale.
Also, he said we had received no offers for Gerard, expects to extend his contract (expiring next summer); didn't mention Uche at all that I could tell but said Aquino had offers from various places and "it was not a big deal" (translation: he's not coming back, and we're not that concerned). Tigres has admitted they're interested in both Uche and Aquino.
