Here is the squad for tomorrow:
- Keepers: Juan Carlos y Aitor (dorsal 31).
- Defenders: Mario, Rukavina, Jaume Costa, Jokic, Dorado y Eric Bailly.
- Midfielders: Trigueros, Jonathan dos Santos, Moi Gómez, Campbell, Bruno y Sergio Marcos (26).
- Strikers: Giovani, Gerard, Vietto y Fran Sol (43).
On the back line, Eric Bailly is included, so presumably will be able to start? If so, it looks like he and Dorado will be the central pairing, with Jaume Costa and Mario completing the back four.
Midfield is missing Tomas Pina, who has a leg injury, and Cheryshev is still out. Looks as though Bruno could start, unless Sergio Marcos does instead; clearly Manu Trigueros will be the partner in the pivote.
And the strike force now includes Vietto and Gio, who has made a quicker return than expected from what was originally reported as a season-ending injury.
Keep in mind that if we can take three points here, we wrap up a European spot regardless of how anyone else does, or how the season might get interrupted. One point leaves the door open for Espanyol and Malaga. (Athletic Club could still finish sixth and us seventh, or win the Copa in which case we would be treated as a seventh-placed team for Europa League purposes).
Note too that with Sevilla looking likely to progress to the Europa League final, but needing to make up four points on Valencia to finish fourth, Spain could have eight teams in Europe next fall).
With the San Pascual festival going on in Vila-real now (I'm enjoying seeing my twitter feed full of people cooking paella outdoors, with big tables set up in the main streets), Marcelino has made a special appeal for fans to come out and support the team.
Endavant Villarreal!!
