Villarreal falls 1-3 against Sevilla at the Madrigal

The Yellow Submarine failed to earn a victory at El Madrigal for the Europa League despite creating countless chances. Things went very awry early into the game after Sevilla scored within seconds.

Cruel outcome for Villarreal as they collide against Sevilla at the Madrigal. It was an unlucky result for The Yellows as Sevilla managed to strike first and very early in the game. Despite creating countless chances, Villarreal struggled throughout the whole game to get back into the scoreboard.

It could not possibly be a worst start for Villarreal as they conceded an early goal 14 seconds just after the kickoff. It is one of the earliest goals in the history of the competition. Sevilla hung up a long ball that Bailly and Musacchio failed to clear out and that Gameiro make the most of it after assisting Vitolo, who struck the ball past Asenjo. Afterwards, Vietto took a shot that hit the post and that Cheryshev failed to convert in an empty net after the rebound.

That first goal really conditioned the match. Subsequently, Villarreal created countless chances, although they failed in the final touches against a very tidy Sevilla wall of defenders. Vietto was Villarreal most incisive player. He was always looking for a way to get past Sevilla's defense, and as usual, he wasn't afraid to shoot from outside.

Sevilla were very dangerous in the counter attacks. They created a lot of damage to Villarreal's defense. Despite Villarreal constant efforts to obtain the tie, it was Sevilla who struck twice with a header from M'bia in the 25th minute. Villarreal was playing better but achieved no reward.

HT Villarreal 0-2 Sevilla

Villarreal's reward arrived two minutes after half-time. Vietto hooked a loose ball in the box after a rebound from a shot by Cheryshev and tied the game. After a few minutes of suspense, the referee consulted his assistants and validated the goal.

The joy would only last a few moments as Sevilla scored a third goal. Once again they hung up the ball into the box after a free kick, those hung up balls were Sevilla's most dangerous weapon and created a lot of danger to Villarreal, Gameiro hooked the ball in the box with no opposition around and struck the ball past a defenseless Asenjo. Unreal.

Villarreal kept fighting until the end when Gerard had a chance after a double header but a graceful Sergio Rico managed to nullify it.

FT Villarreal 1-3 Sevilla.

Very unlucky and unfair result for Villarreal. It would be an overachievement if they manage to over turn things at the Sanchez Pizjuan next week. Marcelino said they are going to give everything in the second leg.

Villarreal will have to turn the page for now and pay Almería a visit Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos in La Liga.
