Just after a long period of hiatus in which the Villarreal B team could not manage to earn a victory despite having been displaying a good level of football, they managed to defeat a competitive Espanyol B side coached by former B team coach, Lluis Planagumà, and earned their first victory of the season in an edgy fashion despite having suffering early setbacks.
It was early in the match during the 20th minute when goal scorer Jairo was brought down in the box having successfully converting his PK afterwards. To make things worse, Aitor had to walk off the pitch due to injury and was replaced by Bañuz in the 31st minute. Despite suffering these major setbacks, the B team was always ambitious. and their perseverance paid off in the 45th minute when Fran Sol scored the equalizer just before the half-time.
During the second half, the mini yellow submarine showed its desire and urge to win. They controlled the match and annulated Espanyol's attacks. Nahuel was very incisive with crosses and dribbles. Just when Espanyol B was pushing over in search of the equalizer, it was Israel Puerto who gave Villarreal B the lead after a strategic play. Then in the dying minutes of the match, it was Fran Sol again who sealed the victory for the B team with brace.
Much deserved victory by the B team against a top team like Espanyol, while ending a 5 games winless streak in the process. Leo Suarez and Franco Acosta will arrive just in time to help the B team climb positions in the table now that the South American U 20 is over, having Argentina ending up in first place and Uruguay in second.
