Huesca-Villarreal: Copa del Rey 1st Leg PREVIEW

Villarreal have managed to pick up two more injuries in the runup to this match, so our lineup will be very makeshift indeed.

Maria José Segovia

Without any further ado, here is the squad for tomorrow's match:

  • Keepers: Barbosa y Areola.
  • Defenders: Eric Bailly, Jokic, Musacchio, Jaume Costa, Pablo Íñiguez, Adrián Marín and Miguelón (dorsal 48).
  • Midfielders: Bruno, Jonathan dos Santos, Trigueros, Samuel García, Samu Castillejo, Denis Suárez and Nahuel.
  • Strikers: Bakambu and Soldado.

The big news is of course the inclusion of Mateo Musacchio in the list; he appears likely to start along with Eric Bailly in the center of defense.   The other interesting news is the inclusion of Miguelón (Miguel Llambrich) in the squad.  He is a right back, a native of Benidorm, who has come up through our youth system.  He began the season with Villarreal C, was just promoted to Villarreal B recently (he made his debut as a starter last week against Eldense) and now finds himself with the first team--and likely starting--due to injuries to Antonio Rukavina and Mario Gaspar.

No Tomas Pina due to suspension (dates from last year's Copa against Barca).

Huesca are currently just above the drop zone in the Segunda Division, and fired their coach following their 2-0 loss to fellow stragglers Llagostera at the weekend.  Their team consists largely of players who have bounced around the Segunda, though you might remember midfielder Fran Merida was an Atletico player briefly.  They've scored only 12 times, conceded 16 in 15 matches, so don't look for lots of goals, especially given our struggles of late.

Villarreal have faced Huesca only twice before: we drew 1-1 in El Madrigal in October 2012(Marcos Senna scoring our goal), and in March 2013 the Submarine won 1-0 with a late goal from Jony Pereira.   This is the first time they've met in the Copa del Rey.

My guess is we'll see Nahuel in the starting lineup, other than that I honestly have no idea who will play ahead of the back four (and presumably Barbosa in goal).

To be honest, a score draw and NO INJURIES would suit me fine at this point.  Endavant Villarreal!!
