Blast from the Past: José Enrique to join Villarreal in January?

According to a report in AS today, maybe....

Could we see this player in a different shade of yellow?

A long time ago in Villarreal terms, 2006 to be exact, we signed a left back from Valencia, José Enrique.  He played for us for a year, then we sold him to Newcastle United in England for €8.7 million.  Those were the days!!

Enrique has played in England since, joining Liverpool in 2011.  AS reports with the arrival of Alberto Moreno, he is seeing less playing time, and so Liverpool is offering us the chance to take him on loan in January (presumably given our left back injuries and his familiarity with the area--not only did he play for us, he came up in Levante's youth teams and is a Valencia native).

His career has been nagged by injuries the last couple of years, so I don't know if he still has the blazing speed he once did, but he's still only 28 and rated at €9m by transfermarkt.  Salary could be an issue, though, since I am sure Liverpool pays him far more than we would budget for.

Regardless, it is good to see us being talked about as a possible destination.  If we are in the Europa League knockout stages when January rolls around, and are doing well in the league, a deal like this might be worth it, especially since we know Jokic won't be returning until sometime in the new year and won't be match fit.

And anyway, it's NEVER too early for a good transfer rumor.....
