Brief history of this site, and a plea for help.....

Hola groguets! Would you like to write for Villarreal USA? Let us know!

Tom Dulat

SO,  as you may know we are a triumvurate running this site:  Sidarth (Sid), Ravi, and me.   The site originally began as a labor of love by our friend maddi, who still comes on here to comment sometimes (and share his "love" of Atlético Madrid, especially) but is no longer involved on a day-to-day basis.

Sidarth has been involved with Villarreal USA since about 2008, and I joined the fall of 2010 when we needed someone to cover all those Europa League midweek matches.   Ravi joined in 2012 when we decided we wanted someone to get involved with podcasts and statistical stuff.

It has been an interesting few years here, to say the least.    We joined SB Nation just when it looked as if Villarreal were going to take off--we were in the middle of a great Europa League campaign, and were busy qualifying for Champions League football.  Of course, it didn't quite work out like we had hoped.  We were relegated from La Liga in 2012, had to fight through the hell of the Segunda Division in 2012- 2013, and last year qualified for Europe again.

The preseason results have been good and there are a lot of positive vibes about the team and the Villarreal USA blog--but we need help to keep the momentum going.

As a visitor to the site noted today, lately it's mostly been me putting articles up--Ravi is very busy with his Seattle Sounders job, and Sid is working long hours as an attorney.  It would be great if we could find one or two of you who would be willing to contribute an occasional article--maybe once a week.  Even if you don't want to spend the time to learn how to use the interface on the site (which isn't difficult) and just want to send me something via email that I can put up under your byline, that would help.

And if you are in Spain, and can give us some "ear-to-the-ground, behind the scenes" sort of stuff, that would be especially good.  But regardless, if you are interested, have questions, whatever, email me at allen@capercat.com.

Also, please don't forget that there is a villarreal fans forum set up at villarrealfans.net.  Harry Drake put this together so we have a place to chat about things Villarreal, or anything else.  A good opportunity to get to know each other better and discuss a variety of topics.  It's starting slowly, but all good things do!
