Ex-Villarreal B coach Planagumá to Espanyol B, Rubi to Valladolid

Some brief coaching news.

Manuel Queimadelos Alonso

Ex-Villarreal coaches continue to sprinkle themselves through the coaching ranks.  Lluis Planagumá, who left his position as Villarreal B team coach at the end of the season, has been announced as the new coach of Espanyol's B team.   He replaces Sergi Gonzalez, who takes over from Javier Aguirre as Espanyol's first-team coach.

It's a return home for Planaguma, who coached various Espanyol youth teams for 11 years.  Espanyol B plays in the same Segunda B group as our second team, and finished on 54 points, just above us on 51.  A lateral move, then.

Real Valladolid have signed Joan Francesc Ferrer, better known as 'Rubi", as their new coach to guide them to a quick  return to the Primera.  I think this is a great move.  Rubi led Girona to the Segunda playoff finals in 2012-13 before Almeria eliminated them, and Valladolid will surely have a stronger roster than the Catalans (who are in danger of being relegated from the Segunda this season, further evidence of the excellent job Rubi did).

Ferrer left Girona in June 2013 to become part of the late Tito Vilanova's staff at Barca.
