Villarreal has been handed a €12,000 fine (roughly $16,000) as punishment for the Dani Alves incident--it's reported here in EPM:
Villarreal receives fine but no ground closure/EPM
Stephen Keshi has been as good as his word: Ike Uche is not going to the World Cup for Nigeria
Uche--no go/The National
The Mexican World Cup squad (or at least the training group of 30) will be announced later this week. Azteca Deportes is reporting Gio will make it, Aquino won't. But other reports suggest Gio may not make it either. Stay tuned.
A salute to the Villarreal women's team: Villarreal FA lost their last match of the season, but finished in fourth place with 19 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses. Pretty excellent: Final de liga--Futvillarreal
Blog interview with Villarreal B striker, Juanto. I didn't realize he had a brother who belongs to Granada now:
Entrevista a Juanto/10 Solo Futból
Oh, and finally let's check up on those Violet, formerly Yellow Submariners. Wild one yesterday as Fiore lost 3-4 at home to Sassuolo. Borja Valero gave away a penalty for a handball in the box; Gonzalo Rodriguez scored a penalty (what??) but also contributed to two Sassuolo goals, sliding frantically all over the place. (He's cut his hair, too, I didn't recognize him at first). But the big news was Giuseppe Rossi, who returned to action in the league, coming on in the 64th minute and promptly scoring in the 71st. You can watch the highlights here.
That's it for now!! Endavant Villarreal!!
