Villarreal dominated the first half powered by the excellent Giovani Dos Santos, Moi Gomez and Manu Trigueros. Gio opened the scoring with a nice finish following a solo run of 40-45 meters.
La Real came out strong early in the 2nd half and the Submarine absorbed some sustained pressure. However Villarreal doubled the lead around the 70th minute on a classic counterattack by Gio & Ikechuku Uche where the latter scored the goal with an assist from the former in front of Claudo Bravo's goal.
Villarreal had more chances after 0-2 that they didnt finish. Carlos Vela scored a consolation goal deep into added time when the victory and 6th place was already secured.
