Villarreal easily took care of Rayo Vallecano today in El Madrigal behind goals from Uche, Bruno, Jony Pereira, and Jaume Costa. The only drawback--injuries to Cani and Bruno, adding to Villarreal's long injury list, and a precautionary (I hope) removal of Gio dos Santos after the halftime break.
Talking points:
(1) Villarreal always play better against a team that is willing to attack and is not terribly physical--Rayo fit that description to a T.
(2) Cani nearly scored on the five-minute mark, and once Villarreal took the lead, Rayo's resistance pretty much disappeared. Their defense was opened up time and time again by quick passes.
(3) Though he didn't feature on the scoresheet, Mateo Musacchio provided two assists and was my man of the match.
(4) Moi, Aquino, Trigueros....they all looked good today. Trigueros's FK was spilled and led to Jaume Costa's tap-in, and Trig hit the bar with another FK.
It could have been 6 or 7-0 with a bit of luck. ENDAVANT VILLARREAL!!!
