Villarreal host Cádiz on Wednesday: Gio dos Santos named to Villarreal squad

New, comments

With all the celebrating after our win on Sunday, and all the excitement of the Europa League draw, let's not forget we have some unfinished business in the Spanish cup--we lead Cádiz 2-1 after the first leg at their ground.

Villarreal return to action on Wednesday, as the Yellow Submarine host Cadiz in the second leg of their fourth-round Copa del Rey tie, with the winner progressing to face either Real Sociedad or Real Oviedo.  (Remember, Barca, Real Madrid, and Atleti are all in the other half of our bracket, so one of those teams is likely to be in the semifinal, hopefully against us; in the other bracket are Valencia and Sevilla, only one of whom can make it past the quarterfinals).

Adrian Marín's red card will keep him out of this match;    Marcelino gave first-team debuts to Jose Naranjo and Israel Puerto last time; look for Nahuel (who scored 2 goals for the B team on Sunday) and Puerto may get another opportunity--he played well before he was knocked out of the match (literally).

The big news is Gio dos Santos returning to the squad; presumably he might see some action in the second half?  I'd be very surprised if he started.  The team is pretty similar to last time, except Gio and Gabriel replace Uche and Marin.

  • Keepers: Juan Carlos y Asenjo.
  • Defenders: Rukavina, Jaume Costa, Gabriel, Dorado e Israel Puerto (dorsal 30).
  • Midfiielders: Pina, Trigueros, Bruno, Espinosa, Moi Gómez y Nahuel (dorsal 27).
  • Strikers: Gerard Moreno, Giovani y José Naranjo (dorsal 42).

The match is at 4PM eastern time Wednesday, and there will certainly be streams.  Endavant!
