Sevilla-Villarreal Preview: Hoping for success in Andalusia

Villarreal visit Sevilla in an attractive tie. Unai Emery's highflying team will be tough to beat, but Villarreal are coming off some excellent away matches and a good performance in the Europa League.

Manuel Queimadelos Alonso

Villarreal travel to the Sanchez Pizjuán in what will be a tough match.  Sevilla are currently fourth on the table, and apart from a disastrous visit to Atletico Madrid, have been very good indeed.  Carlos Bacca has scored 6 goals, Stephane M'Bia 3, and in spite of the departure of Ivan Rakitic, Sevilla look to be quite a handful.  15 goals for and 8 against is quite good; on the other hand, apart from Valencia (draw at home, 1-1) and Atleti (loss away, 4-0) you could make the case Sevilla haven't really played the better teams in la Liga yet.

Villarreal has traveled with 19 players for the match, one of whom will be dropped to give the 18.  It's the same 18 as were chosen in midweek, with the addition of Uche.

  • Asenjo and Juan Carlos.
  • Mario, Jaume Costa, Adrián Marín, Gabriel and Víctor Ruiz.
  • Bruno, Trigueros, Jonathan dos Santos, Pina, Espinosa, Moi Gómez, Cani and Cheryshev.
  • Giovani, Uche, Gerard and Vietto.

The defense picks itself, I think: Asenjo in goal, Mario, Ruiz, Gabriel and Jaume Costa, rested in midweek.  Midfield I think Moi, Bruno, Trigueros and Cheryshev, and Gio and Uche up front.

Sevilla is in much better shape in terms of injuries, though Mariano Barbosa, ex-Villarreal keeper, is unable to face us due to injury.

Prediction:  We always have a hard time against a Unai Emery team--he seems to do a really great job of preparing his teams to face us.  Sevilla have won 9 of 11 at home in the league, but then Villarreal have played well on the road so far.

I'm going to go for a 2-2 result, which to be honest I'd be happy with; a win for the Yellow Submarine would be great, but I'm not expecting it here given our injuries and Emery's club.  But I'll hope we can do it.  Endavant Villarreal!!!

Note: Yet again, we'll just leave this up for the gamethread.  Hopefully there will be lots of comments celebrating Villarreal goals!!
