Copa Del Rey draw: Villarreal's chance to shine

Villarreal has a woeful record in this competition, but the draw was kind to us. Our first opponent: the other Yellow Submarine, Cadiz, and former Villarreal B striker Airam Cabrera.

The draw for the Copa del Rey was held today, and Villarreal avoided the big names in the draw until the semifinals, if we get that far.

There are essentially four brackets of eight teams each at this point.  In ours, the matchups are Cadiz v Villarreal, the winner of that plays the winner of Real Oviedo-Real Sociedad in the round of 16.

In the other half of our bracket, Betis play Almeria, Getafe face Eibar.  The winners of those two square off, and the winner of that match would face Villarreal, if we get that far.  And the winner of that match is one of four teams in the semis.

It gets complicated after that, because we would face the team that comes out of a bracket featuring Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid, but hey.  None of those teams as potential opponents until the semis, Sevilla and Valencia in the other half of the draw.  Couldn't ask for more than that.

The first leg in Cadiz will be December 3, the return leg at El Madrigal December 17.   Endavant!
