Villarreal News, September 8: Marcelino interview and more

A brief roundup of some Villarreal-related news.

Manuel Queimadelos Alonso

Marcelino interview--Marca

Our coach praises Bruno and Cani, says he's surprised Madrid sold Ozil. He also was asked about Bielsa's comment that a "coach can only change 5% of what happens in a game" and says a bit more, but not much.

Also interesting that he says we were lucky to win in Almeria--he thought a draw would have been a just result--but felt the other two matches so far we certainly deserved to win.

Cani, the sensation of Villarreal--Vavel

Excellent article on Cani and his resurgence under Marcelino. Did you know that he had almost given up football and applied for a job in a supermarket, before achieving success at Real Zaragoza?

5 keys to Villarreal's success so far--Terra

Maybe Vicente del Bosque should read the first one, since it includes "Bruno on the pitch"!

Gerard Moreno scores twice in Mallorca's victory--RCD Mallorca

Mallorca got off the bottom of the Segunda table with a 2-1 win against leaders Alcorcon, thanks to two goals from our loanee, who now has three for the year in four matches.

You can watch the goals here--the first was an absolute golazo from a tight angle, Gerard hooking the ball over the defender and the keeper. It's not every day you get to celebrate with Demonio--though why the devil dropped his pitchfork I am not sure!! The second came about as a result of a massive goalkeeper fail, the keeper passing the ball to him--but still, he had to dummy the keeper and put the shot away.

Incidentally, Ponferradina has scored six goals in the season so far and four of them are from ex-Villarreal players: Marquitos (1), and Fofo (3). Fofo played for our C and B teams but went to Ponfe in January 2012. He's a native of Palma de Mallorca, incidentally.
