Euro 2012, Day Ten: Open Thread

Take a bow, Silvestre Varela.
Take a bow, Silvestre Varela.

The Group of Death draws to a close today. No one in, no one out. But the Germans are practically there, and the Dutch are almost on a somber plane home. Group B standings: Germany 6, Portugal 3, Denmark 3, Netherlands 0.

Portugal vs. Netherlands, 2:45 pm ET (ESPN)

My predicted final (in a rematch): instead a do-or-die game in the group stage. One or both of these pre-tournament favorites is going home today. Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to make an appearance at Euro 2012, while the Dutch were the last(!) team to score a goal. Could make for a barn burner, with nastiness to boot. Two ill-tempered, frustrated sides who should delight the fans in Kharkiv.

Denmark vs. Germany, 2:45 pm ET (ESPN2)

The Danes fought back from two goals down only to lose to a late Silvestre Varela strike. Nicklas Bendtner did, that is. They'll need some more magic against on-song Mario Gomez and company to advance. Lots of scoreboard watching to be expected in Lviv. Germany needs just a point to win the group, but they will be playing to make a statement.
